Alumni Association of College of Engineering,Guindy (AACEG)successfully held its 3rdGlobal Alumni Meet ‘CEGAM 3.0’

Chennai, 22 July, 2018: Alumni Association of College of Engineering, Guindy, an oldest alumni association in the country, organized its third CEGAM meet (College of Engineering, Guindy – Global Alumni Meet) at CEG campus today. The event encompasses various knowledge sharing sessions and panel discussions with eminent panelist for the whole day with more than 1500 alumni from the pre-independence batch (1940 batch) to the current student of 2018 in the meet. CEG-ians from across the globe traveled down for the event. The alumni present interacted with the current batch students and exchanged some in-depth knowledge and experience with the students which were insightful and encouraging.
From its humble beginning in 2011 and with its strong objective, CEGAM has set a mark in alumni meet arena. Padma Bhushan Dr. Raj Reddy, Computer Scientist & Turing Award Winner, Dr. V. Balamurugan, Director, Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) Chennai, Mrs. Kamala Devi Subrahmanyan, Superintending Engineer (Retd.), All India Radio and Prof. M. K. Surappa, VC, Anna University graced the occasion.
With an objective to create a platform for the alumni of CEG and encourage collaboration among them, CEGAM also brought in global expertise knowledge of its alumni to the state and inspired the students more into entrepreneurial venture. AACEG president informed that the association is planning to accumulate 225 lakhs rupees to sponsor the hostel and mess fees of the needy and to set up new incubation center at the campus.
Delivering key note address Padma Bhushan Dr. Raj Reddy, Computer Scientist & Turing Award Winner said “I have been in the field of computing for over six decades. Artificial Intelligence started in mid 1950s and I wonder why robotics has not taken over the world, as everyone has been predicting. For the past 20 years I ask myself if there are ways to use this technology to help those at the bottom of the pyramid, the digitally illiterate. Voice and regional language technology with AI is at a level now that with relevant data, we can empower the society”, he said.
Recollecting her old days Mrs. Kamala Devi Subrahmanyan, Superintending Engineer (Retd.), All India Radio and alumni of CEG said “I am standing here because of the support from my family members and faculty members. Enthusiasm and courage is what every woman, irrespective of generation, needs to have to achieve their ambitions and CEG education gives one that”, she said.
Speaking about the initiative Mr. D. Vasudevan, President of AACEG said, “CEGAM was conceived as an event to reconnect and strengthen the ties between alumni, students and the institution. He recollected the prominent names like K L Rao, Verghese Kurien, two former captains of Indian cricket team and few others while addressing. He also pointed that many Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan awardees and IAS officers who played an important role in nation building are the alumni of CEG. The nostalgia filled the eyes of the alumni with tears after seeing their batch mates, visiting their classroom, hostel where they were at their young age. Many even recollected the place where they met their life partner.
Series of panel discussions with eminent panelists was organized on topics such as topics “Entrepreneurship, Incubation and Start-up at CEG”, “Women in Engineering” and “Role of Engineers in Public Policy Making” which also received great response from the participants.
